Amiya Alexander, Founder, Amiya’s Mobile Dance Academy
During our 6th Annual 2017 International Pretty Brown Girl Day on February 25, 2017, we seek to encourage girls to think of their futures by seeing GIRLprenuers in their communities who look like them. This is the perfect day to highlight women and girls of color who are leaving a footprint for other pretty brown girls to walk in. We would like to feature Pretty Brown GIRLpreneur, Amiya Alexander!
About Amiya’s Mobile Dance Academy
Amiya Alexander is a dancer and entrepreneur from Detroit, Michigan who has done something pretty amazing for anyone, adults or kids! She owns her own dance studio inside of a pink bus, which travels around Detroit giving dance lessons to students!
Amiya’s passion for dance, teaching and helping others has been a huge inspiration to Amiya and is the secret ingredient that fuels her and her “dance-business-in-a-bus!”. The academy for Detroit students ages 2-12 brings dance lessons in ballet, tap, jazz, salsa and hip-hop. Amiya also teaches classes on healthy eating and wellness.
The ultimate goal of Amiya and her bus dance academy is to fight childhood obesity, which is a growing epidemic in the United States. Currently, childhood obesity effects about 1/3 of American children. Amiya’s goal is to bring that number down to zero by getting kids to eat right and work out.
