Listed by New York Magazine as a Community Organization to support for Black Lives Matter initiatives and ranked by NBC News as one of the top seven organizations dedicated to empowering girls of color, Pretty Brown Girl (PBG) is an organization dedicated to educating and empowering Black and Brown girls by encouraging self-acceptance while cultivating social, emotional & intellectual well-being. Pretty Brown Girl is one of the fastest-growing girls movements in the country, focused on the well-being of girls.
Our Story
An eye-opening experience back in 2010 was the beginning of it all. A birthday celebration filled with beautiful Black girls, at a store with primarily white-featured dolls available and chosen by these girls, was what made us realize that our own daughters, as many other girls of color, were dealing with self-esteem and skin-tone related issues that needed to change. Our determination to be part of the solution led us to create Pretty Brown Girl, and what started as a unique product line for girls has evolved into a global movement.

Mission
To empower Black and Brown girls while encouraging self-acceptance by cultivating social, emotional & intellectual well-being.
Vision
To create a movement designed to instill self-confidence, pride, and leadership skills in girls to help propel them into positions of power and community activism.
Impact
Since 2010, Pretty Brown Girl has impacted over 50,000 girls and established over 300 After-School Programs in 59 cities across 29 states.
Our Current Goal
Today, our goal is to be able to overcome geographical barriers and reach over 5 million girls around the United States and beyond through our program, Pretty Brown Girl Academy. PBG Academy is the only national SEL club personalized for Black and Brown girls to encourage self-acceptance by cultivating social, emotional & intellectual well-being. The program focuses on reaching girls in Elementary, Middle, and High School, concentrating efforts on building leaders from the inside out, while guiding girls through a self-discovery journey that inspires confidence, self-love, and a passion to pursue their dreams.
