During our 6th Annual 2017 International Pretty Brown Girl Day on February 25, 2017, we seek to encourage girls to think of their futures by seeing GIRLprenuers in their communities who look like them. This is the perfect day to highlight women and girls of color who are leaving a footprint for other pretty brown girls to walk in. We would like to feature Pretty Brown GIRLpreneur, Mikaila Ulmer.
About Me & The Bees Lemonade
When Mikaila was 4 years old, she was encouraged by her family to make a product for a Children’s business competition (the Acton Children’s Business Fair) and Austin Lemonade Day. Mikaila thought about some ideas. While she was thinking, two big events happened. She got stung by a bee and her Great Grandmother Helen sent her family a 1940’s cookbook, which included her special recipe for Flaxseed Lemonade.
Mikaila became fascinated with bees, learned all about what they do for her and our ecosystem. So she thought, what if I make something that helps honeybees and uses my Great Granny Helen’s recipe? That’s how Me & the Bees Lemonade was born.
Now, at age 11, when not at her lemonade stand telling all the digestive benefits of flaxseed, you can find Mikaila leading workshops on how to save the honeybees, and participating in social entrepreneurship panels.
Mikaila appeared on Shark Tank, where she won $60,000 and even served her lemonade to President Barack Obama! Mikaila and her award-winning lemonade is buzzing off the shelves and made an $11 million deal with 55 Whole Foods Markets!
