September 28th marks our official tenth rotation around the sun for Pretty Brown Girl. Yes, you read that right! We’re four days shy from our tenth anniversary of impacting and implementing change in the lives of Black and Brown girls. The countdown is bittersweet as we are mourning Breonna Taylor’s case. The lack of justice speaks volumes. We are reminded often that black women are the most disrespected in America.
As we reflect on the major milestones of PBG and revel in some of our biggest achievements. We are reminded that while we’ve made so many strides in our community there is still a lot of work to do. Harriet Tubman once said, “If you hear the dogs, keep going. If you see the torches in the woods, keep going. If there’s shouting after you, keep going. Don’t ever stop. Keep going. If you want a taste of freedom, keep going.” This message resonates with our core values. It motivates us to continue our work of advocating on behalf of Black and Brown girls!
We are grateful to be celebrating our tenth anniversary! We couldn’t have done this without the contribution of every person, no matter how big or small. We stand here a decade later because of our ancestors to the women and men who helped us with business ideas and innovation.
Thank you to our fearless Ambassadors that have led our girls in communities across the globe. We are grateful for every Pretty Brown Girl, Parent, Principal, Superintendent, Teacher, Mentor, Volunteer, or Sponsor that made our programs in schools change the lives of over 22,000 girls. Thank you for trusting and supporting the mission of PBG.
